On the 17th of March, Sotheby’s in New York will hold its first 20th Century Design sale of 2010. Unlike Christie’s, Sotheby’s is taking a chance on a few contemporary pieces in their initial sale, and it will be interesting to see how they fair against the historically strong mid and early 20th century pieces that make up the rest of the sale.

Now installed in the vacant lot known as ‘The Garage’ in London’s Knightsbridge area, is a pop-up shop called ‘The Modern Danish Warehouse’. Available at the shop is a carefully edited selection of fantastic vintage pieces ranging in price from £100 to £1,500.

On the 16th of March, Christie’s in New York will hold its first 20th Century Decorative Art & Design sale of 2010.
This month, we highly recommend picking up a copy of the newly released ‘1000 New Designs 2: And Where To Find Them’ by Jennifer Hudson.
This new edition follows on Hudson’s orginal ‘1000 New Designs: And Where To Find Them’ published in 2006, and presents an updated and comprehensive roundup of the best contemporary design from around world.
R 20th Century Gallery

Now on view at the R 20th Century Gallery in New York City is an exhibition of contemporary Korean design. This show is presented in conjunction with Gallery Seomi in Seoul, Korea and it marks the Western debut for many of the included designers.

Opening this month in Long Beach California is a juried exhibition called ‘EcoTopia’, which highlights new concepts in green product design.
The show was organized by the leading Southern California product design consultancy Nectar, to showcase innovative and trendsetting designs aimed at fostering a healthy ecosystem and more sustainable society.

West 26th Street, New York City
On March 4th, young Dutch designer Joris Laarman will unveil a new collection of work at Friedman Benda in New York City.
In creating these works, Laarman used software originally developed for the German auto industry to replicate the algorithmic logic that underlies tree an bone growth.

On the 6th of March, Phillips de Pury & Company in New York will hold the auction house’s second NOW themed sale. This upcoming sale will offer a cross section of the most exciting contemporary art, design and photography to be created since the new millenium.

Now on view at MUDAC, Musée de Design et d’Arts Appliqués Contemporains, in Lausanne, Switzerland is ‘Destroy Design’, an exhibition of important works on loan from Frances FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais that focuses of the unique position of the object in contemporary culture.
