Christie’s Sale of 20th Century Decorative Art & Design
16th March ’10, 10:00 am
Christie’s
Rockefeller New York
On the 16th of March, Christie’s in New York will hold its first 20th Century Decorative Art & Design sale of 2010.
The lots on offer are predominently from the first half of the twentieth century, with a fair amount of mid-century pieces included towards the end of the sale. Of these mid-century works, Christie’s is not taking any risks by presenting almost exlcusively moderately-priced pieces by well-known designers.
Highlights from this mid-century selection include a ‘Flavigny’ Bed by Jean Prouvé, circa 1957, estimated between $5,000 - $8,000, an ‘Elmo’ Table Lamp by Joe Colombo, circa 1976, estimate between $3,000 - $5,000, and Poul Kjaerholm ‘PK-24’ Chaise Longue, designed 1965, estimated at $4,000 - $6,000. Other highlights include a wide range of works by George Nakashima and Harry Bertoia. It will be interesting to see how these lots fair in the sale given the quantity by each design up for grabs in this sale.
Highlights of the auction can be seen in DeTnk’s Collecting Design Marketplace.
