Reminiscent of Campana Brothers' work, Jay Sae Jung Oh's Savage Chair combines a modern plastic camp aesthetic with what one generally considers a more natural woven surface. The outcome is a beautifully complex object that demands attention and consideration of the design community.
A new and unique artwork by Ship in the Bottle artist Yinka Shonibare, MBE, is revealed Tuesday 19 June at the Royal Opera House on the exterior of the building overlooking Russell Street in Covent Garden. Entitled Globe Head Ballerina, this new work, part of London 2012 Festival, will remain in place for five years.

The UK’s largest celebration of buildings and the city, the London Festival of Architecture (LFA), will return from 23 June – 8 July 2012. The event, held biennially since 2004, will reinforce London’s reputation as an international creative hub, as a varied programme of exciting events take place all over the capital.

From the 12th through the 17th of June Design Miami/ set up camp in Basel. Bringing together 35 galleries from around the world, the fair boasted a record number of attendees - 22,000 up from 20,500 in 2011.

During Design Miami/ Basel we are confronted with many galleries showing their perspective on the best of contemporary design. In contrast to this peacockery, we have Depot Basel - a design platform that brings together contemporary crafts people and designers to open a space for dialogue as well as appreciation for design - whether it be collectible or visually pleasing.

As with all art/design fairs, one walks around feeling excited with all of the design/art in their presence - while at the same time the density of work becomes overwhelming and some pieces get lost in the crowd. The collection by French designer and interior architect Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance Naturoscopie is one of the pieces that manages to stand out amongst the sea of work.

This year's Design Maimi/ Basel brought out the best in design galleries from around the world. One which stood out most to us at DeTnk was the presentation of Jean Prouvé's Métropole Aluminium presented by Galerie Patrick Seguin.

In an unusual take on the subject, the MAK exhibition THINGS. plain & simple explores the ideal of simplicity as a significant and formative element of style history across epochs and cultures. The broadly conceived exhibition from the museum’s collection puts the principle of simplicity in different perspectives, discussing it not only as an aesthetic premise, but also in the context of socio- political and sociological phenomena.
Designer Simon Busse, based in Stuttgart, has designed MARIONET a side table that uses simple joinery, inspired by marionettes, that creates a clever contemporary look.
