‘NATUROSCOPIE’ by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance presented by Galerie BSL
Design Miami/ Basel '12 Review
Basel
As with all art/design fairs, one walks around feeling excited with all of the design/art in their presence - while at the same time the density of work becomes overwhelming and some pieces get lost in the crowd. The collection by French designer and interior architect Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance Naturoscopie is one of the pieces that manages to stand out amongst the sea of work.
Naturoscopie was especially commissioned for the occasion of Design Miami/ Basel '12 - perhaps Noé intended to create objects that allowed for an aesthetic refuge from the more ostentatious spirit of a design fair.

From The Designer:
In this collection, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance puts into perspective an idea of nature which is not imitated or represented, but is rather harnessed, sensed and recreated. Here, the function of the design object (to light, to place, to reflect...) is infused with a primary emotional imprint, that of nature when the sunlight creeps through the foliage of a tree, when the sky changes with the wind, when the image of a sunset overwhelms the sensitive surface of our memories. Simplicity and universality are conveyed thanks to synthetic materials such as carbon fibre, plexiglas and polyamide, rather than natural materials, via the technology of LEDs and their digital programming rather than a gesture of Arte Povera. The organic shapes of the pieces, fluid yet structured, support and extend this sensory experience.
NOE DUCHAUFOUR-LAWRANCE Naturoscopie III, 2012
‘Naturoscopie’ is above all reminiscence, a personal, as well as universal, Proust’s Madeleine. Design asserts itself as a vector of impressions, an image developer, a receptacle and a transmitter of emotions.
