On March 31 '11 Christies is holding the final three auctions of Les Collections du Château de Gourdon. The morning and afternoon auctions are focusing on the collection's antiques and paintings. In the evening, at 6pm, bidders will be presented with a wonderful collection of art nouveau and art deco design.
Amanda Levete Architects have proposed a £35 million ($56 million) plan that will include a large courtyard featuring an irregular geometric motif that will respond to the V&A's historic façade.

It is not often that a collection the breadth and scale of Les Collections du Château de Gourdon comes to auction in its entirety. Spread over three days the auction presents buyers with hundreds of lots with a total estimated value of 40 to 60 million euros.

On March 10th Sotheby's New York hosted the first design auction of 2011. The sale total for the day reached $3,551,816, $3,390,253 of which can be attributed to specific designers.
Burnt wood always catches my eye. The shimmering shades of black that only fire can bring to life are contained inside of these neorustic bowls created by designer Giacomo Moor.
He describes the material as -
Olive-tree wood section’s cut into the middle and carved in exterior. Inside is burn with fire and cover by an epoxy resin
Galerie Gosserez is presenting "l'Etreinte" by Elise Gabriel, a series of furniture (table, chair and lights) whose main theme is researching Zelfo, a new material composed of cellulose* whose great propensity to reduce, to model itself on curvilinear shapes and to embrace the material, allows it to fit tightly round and to assemble together the elements on which it dries.
