This week the city of Stockholm is hosting its annual Design Week which includes the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair.
The Furniture Fair itself offers an impressive exhibition of the latest Scandinavian designs with approximately 650 exhibitors including displays from Jonas Wagell and Seller, as well as an installation from iconic British designer Paul Smith.
Barbican Art Gallery
London
On the 18th of February, the Barbican Gallery in London with open a retrospective of iconic designer Ron Arad’s work to date.
‘Ron Arad: Restless’ explores three decades of Arad’s work from his early post-punk approach of assembling products from readymade parts to his exclusive and highly polished sculptural objects. In addition to these unique and limited works, the exhibition will also include architectural designs and mass production pieces, which will supply visitors with a comprehensive view of Arad’s varied oeuvre.
Knoedler Project Space
East 70th Street, New York
Now on view at the Knoedler Project Space in New York City is an exhibition of Johnny Swing’s sculptural furniture. Swing creates unique and functional sculpted furniture out of a variety of everyday materials. His designs include works made from recycled baby food jars, and leather disks, but he is undoubtably best known for his pieces made of American coinage.
D&A Lab, Brussels is a young gallery that commissions contemporary artists to create innovative design objects. By doing so they aim to unify the unique, rigid and non-functional aspect of art with the recognizable character of the design-object functionality.
At Object Rotterdam, the Rabih Hage Gallery, London is showing a range of works from notable contemporary designers Karen Ryan, Johnny Swing, Rabih Hage, and Aki Kuroda.
This is the Rabih Hage Gallery’s first exhibition in the Netherlands and so they have chosen to exhibit a range of objects representative of the gallery’s own character.
For the Total Table Design project, which premiered at Object Rotterdam, Dutch designers Kiki van Eijk and studio Scholten & Baijings present their visions for the art of dining.
As they describe it, ‘In contemporary dining culture one encounters worlds of difference.
This year at Object Rotterdam, the Apartment, London is showcasing works by Brodie Neil and Marcus Tremonto including Tremonto’s ‘Carbon 451’ Hanging Lamp (showcased on DeTnk a few months ago) that utilizes and celebrates the inherent lightness and strength of carbon fiber in its curvelinear structure.

Musée des Arts Contemporains
Grand-Hornu Site, Belgium
On the 7th of February, the Musée des Arts Contemporains (MAC) will open its first joint exhibition with the Grand-Hornu site. The exhibition entitled “Le Fabuleux Destin du Quotidien” (“The Fabulous Destiny of the Quotidian”) is curated by Veerie Wenes and François Foulon, and it focuses on the complex relationship between artists and designers.
We are very excited to announce that a wide range of items by internationally renowned Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek is now available in the DeTnk Collecting Design Market. The selection available includes a variety of lamps and chairs, as well as a few fantastic examples of some of his most famous works such as the Classic Cabinet in Scrapwood and Crisis Sofa.

For one night in February the five emerging designers who have been showing at the Design Museum, London this winter will take over the museum and present an evening full of talks, tasks, and events.
In February David Gill Galleries in London will show a selection of new works from renowned ceramic artist Barnaby Barford. The pieces on display were made in correlation with the production of Barford’s first animated film ‘Damaged Goods’.
