Johnny Swing On Show in New York
4th February - 27th March, 2010
Knoedler Project Space
East 70th Street, New York
Now on view at the Knoedler Project Space in New York City is an exhibition of Johnny Swing’s sculptural furniture. Swing creates unique and functional sculpted furniture out of a variety of everyday materials. His designs include works made from recycled baby food jars, and leather disks, but he is undoubtably best known for his pieces made of American coinage.
Among the works on display at the Knoedler are his ‘Butterfly Chair’, 2002 and ‘Nickel Couch’, 2001, which fetched over $100,000 at auction at Sotheby’s back in December. Swings works have been featured in a variety of publications recently including the New York Times and Art & Auction Magazine, and the show at the Knoedler breifly overlapped with another show of Swing’s work at the Cynthia Reeves Gallery in New York, which closed on February 6th.
Johnny Swing is clearly on the rise at the moment, so be sure to stop by this show if you’re in the New York area.
