Sotheby’s Sale of 20th Design
17th March ’10, 10:00 am
Sotheby’s
York Street, New York
On the 17th of March, Sotheby’s in New York will hold its first 20th Century Design sale of 2010. Unlike Christie’s, Sotheby’s is taking a chance on a few contemporary pieces in their initial sale, and it will be interesting to see how they fair against the historically strong mid and early 20th century pieces that make up the rest of the sale.
Highlights include Frank Gehry’s ‘Grandpa Beaver’ Armchair, circa 1986, estimated between $5,000 - $7,000, as well as Gehry’s ‘Bubbles’ Chaise Longue, 2007, estimate between $15,000 - $20,000. Also up for grabs is a ‘Conoid’ bench by George Nakashima, 1979, estimate between $20,000 - $30,00, along with wide range of works by mid-century staples such as Jean Prouvé, Gio Ponti, Charlotte Perriand, and Jean Royere.
Highlights of the auction can be seen in DeTnk’s Collecting Design Marketplace.
