V&A Exhibition Road Quarter to open 30 June
Museum’s largest architectural intervention in the last 100 years
To coincide with the opening of the new courtyard the V&A has programmed REVEAL, a free, week-long public festival running from 30 June to 7 July 2017. Art and design commissions, performances, fashion, family activities and collaborations with neighbouring Albertopolis institutions will celebrate the opening of the V&A’s Exhibition Road Quarter designed by the Stirling Prize-winning British architect Amanda Levete and her practice AL_A.
Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) are working with the V&A on an exciting process to install what will be the first porcelain-tiled public courtyard in the UK. This choice of material responds specifically to the fabric of the original building and its collections, which include numerous striking examples of 19th century decorative ceramics. The courtyard will act as a venue for installations and events and will be served by a glass-fronted café. In addition to providing a range of new public spaces inside and outside the Museum, the project will create a new relationship between the heart of the V&A and Exhibition Road.
