Now on view at the Knoedler Project Space in New York City is an exhibition of Johnny Swing’s sculptural furniture. Swing creates unique and functional sculpted furniture out of a variety of everyday materials. His designs include works made from recycled baby food jars, and leather disks, but he is undoubtably best known for his pieces made of American coinage.
D&A Lab, Brussels is a young gallery that commissions contemporary artists to create innovative design objects. By doing so they aim to unify the unique, rigid and non-functional aspect of art with the recognizable character of the design-object functionality.
At Object Rotterdam, the Rabih Hage Gallery, London is showing a range of works from notable contemporary designers Karen Ryan, Johnny Swing, Rabih Hage, and Aki Kuroda.
This is the Rabih Hage Gallery’s first exhibition in the Netherlands and so they have chosen to exhibit a range of objects representative of the gallery’s own character.
For the Total Table Design project, which premiered at Object Rotterdam, Dutch designers Kiki van Eijk and studio Scholten & Baijings present their visions for the art of dining.
As they describe it, ‘In contemporary dining culture one encounters worlds of difference.
This year at Object Rotterdam, the Apartment, London is showcasing works by Brodie Neil and Marcus Tremonto including Tremonto’s ‘Carbon 451’ Hanging Lamp (showcased on DeTnk a few months ago) that utilizes and celebrates the inherent lightness and strength of carbon fiber in its curvelinear structure.
