This weekend Los Angeles Modern Auctions held a sale of Modern Art and Design, featuring 453 lots, half of which had never traded on the open market before this.

Last week saw the Christies sale of 'Important 20th Century Decorative Art & Design', featuring 208 works of collectible design from across the world, including furniture by Jean Royére and German master Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, Art Deco from Etienne Drian, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Jean Dunand and contemporary pieces from Ron Arad and Maarten Bass.

On May 25th Phillips de Pury & Company held their second design auction of the season. Of the 168 lots attributed to specific designers, 65.48% sold bringing in a total of £1,501,059 (10% below the estimated total of £1,662,220).

On April 20th Christie's London hosted their second 20th century decorative art and design sale of 2011. The sale brought in a total of £990,675 from a total of 107 lots attributed to specific designers*.
With only 60.75% of the lots selling, this auction marks the lowest percentage of lots sold of the auctions DeTnk has analysed so far in 2011.
Phillips de Pury & Company

On April 7th Phillips de Pury & Company hosted their first design auction of 2011 at their London offices. With a total of 154 lots on offer the sale ended up selling only 67.53% (around 10% less than this years current average) of the lots bringing in a grand total of £2,062,025 in sales, just below their average estimated total of £2,423,500.

As the dust settles from the excitement of last weeks sale, we are starting to get a feel for the 2011 design market's climate.
Christie's is quick to point out that the chaise longue 'on skis' created in l929 by Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann set a world record for the designer, selling at £2,406,600.
