Festive Installation from Paul Cocksedge
On view until the 10th January '10
Galleria Vitorio Emanuele II
Milan
As part of the Light Exhibition Design competition, Paul Cocksedge has created a festive installation using LED lights, which is now on view at the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II in Milan.
The installation, titled ‘KISS’ is part of a competitation organised by the Comune di Milano to light up the city of Milan during the international Festival of Lights. The Light Exhibition Design event consists of several innovative light installations in various locations around the city.
The striking (if somewhat kitschy) ‘KISS’ consists of a huge LED canopy covering the interior of the centre dome of the Galleria Vitorio Emanuele II. From this canopy hangs a large mistletoe, which hovers above a lighted stage where visitors can indulge in the European tradition of kissing under the mistletoe. When a couple kisses under the mistletoe it activates a lighting sequence, which illuminates the canopy. The idea for the installation developed from Cocksedge’s desire to stage an intimate encounter in the public sphere.
‘KISS’ will be on view until the 10th of January. For more information please visit www.paulcocksedge.co.uk
