Plans for October

For its 9th edition on Berkeley Square, PAD London broadens its offering with the arrival of 13 new international galleries, adding fresh perspectives to its rich historical panorama of art and design.

This year Asian and Islamic art come under the spotlight. Contemporary Chinese ink painting, still little known in Asia and the West, makes its first appearance with the participation of Michael Goedhuis (UK/China/USA), an authority on the subject. Alexis Renard (France) brings an exquisite collection of Asian and Islamic art and artefacts, ranging from 10th Century painted terracotta from Iran to 18th Century gilded works on paper from India.

Renowned for discovering exceptional pieces of animal art from the 19th and 20th Centuries, Galerie Xavier Eeckhout (France) presents rare editions of bronzes from the historic French foundry Susse Frères, including works by André-Vincent Becquerel. Tomasso Brothers Fine Art (UK), reputed advisors to leading cultural institutions worldwide, feature some invaluable European bronze sculptures from the Neo-Classical and early Renaissance periods.

Post-war Italian art continues to expand with Mazzoleni Art (UK), bringing a selection of works by their iconic artists Alighiero Boetti, Alberto Burri and Agostino Bonalumi.

A major addition to the fair is Siegelson (USA), a third-generation business established in 1920 and an authority on rare jewellery, gemstones and objets d'art. At PAD, a breath-taking display of carefully sourced Art Deco masterpieces, including bracelets and time pieces from late 1920s Paris, and staged in a radically contemporary context, promises to be a key highlight.

The new participation of Magen H Gallery (USA) reinforces the presence of 20th Century design. The compelling work of Argentinian designer and sculptor Alicia Penalba, andof German-French sculptor Francois Stahly, feature amongst several post-war art and design highlights. Yves Gastou(France) joins the fair with a stable of 20th Century French avant-garde designers including Philippe Hiquily, Pierre Sabtier and Ado Chale, while Galerie Chastel-Maréchal (France) places the focus onLine Vautrin and Jean Royère. Gordon Watson (UK) brings his unique taste for eye-catching 1930s-1950s design pieces and objets d'art, introducing the work of British designer T.H Robsjohn-Gibbing, amongst others.

The arrival of interior designer Rose Uniacke (UK) expands the array of dual profile gallerists at PAD - those designing interiors and creating their own pieces. At the fair Uniacke puts 20th Century Scandinavian design in the spotlight, in particular 1920s-30s pine furniture by Swedish designer Axel Einar Hjorth, displayed alongside some delicate lighting, textile and furniture pieces by Uniacke. Renowned for some of France's most playful interiors and quirky juxtapositions, Jacques Hervouet (France) offers a stunning 1960s dining table, composed of a bronze foot by Jacques Quinet and a vibrant orange resin top by Pierre Giraudon. Inspired by the craftsmanship of the late Alberto Pinto, Pinto Paris (France) produces timeless designs using unique material combinations and traditional methods. At PAD the gallery presents cabinet, lamp and table designs as well as exquisite hand painted porcelain.

This year the PAD restaurant and Ruinart bar will be designed by Francis Sultana. Inspired by Post-War Paris, Sultana explains: 'I want to create a theatre for a week in the heart of Berkeley Square. PAD brings a little bit of Parisian style to London every year and I want to celebrate this. I will seek my influences from the likes of Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean-Michel Frank and Emilio Terry. However the entire feel will also nod to the work of conceptual artists such as Daniel Buren and the work of Ugo Rondinone. I am incredibly excited and honoured to be working with PAD.'

The Moët Hennessy PAD London Prize returns with a prestigious panel of judges including Julia Peyton-Jones, Elizabeth Saltzman, Nigel Coates, Allegra Hicks and Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Three awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Contemporary Design, Best 20th Century Decorative Art work and Best Stand. PAD London together with Moët Hennessy are proud to announce their continued support for the acclaimed Design Fund to benefit the V&A, which donates a contemporary design piece to the museum's permanent collection.
