As the first months of the Great British Summer are upon us we are once again treated to a variety of ambitious degree shows with students eager to join the design community. The Royal College of Art has always been a great incubator for design and this years batch of graduates is no exception.

Against the background of the summer exhibition ‘Gerrit Rietveld – The Revolution of Space’, a special exhibition under the title ‘Confrontations’ opened during Art Basel at the Vitra Design Museum, dedicated to a number of innovative Dutch designers whose experimental methods are similar to Rietveld's.

A museum and centre dedicated to all aspects of the Nebuta Festival, the Nebuta House by Molo, has opened it's doors in the Northern Japanese City of Aomori.
Recent industrial design graduate, Jannis Hülsen, explores the future of materials and production through his project Xylinum. In contrast to recent science+design projects, Hülsen actually works in with the material - using bacteria to 'upholster' a prototype stool.
