Frank Gehry unveils design for his first Australian building

University of Technology, Sydney, Dr Chau Chak Wing

Frank Gehry, one of the world’s best-known architects has unveiled his design for a $150 million building at the University of Technology Sydney's business school, The Dr Chau Chak Wing; named after it's benefactor, an Australian-Chinese businessman, who donated $20 million for the project. This will be Gehry's first building in Australia.

Following years of planning and anticipation, Miami Art Museum has broken ground for its new Herzog & de Meuron-designed facility in Downtown Miami’s Museum Park and next to the future home of the Miami Science Museum. The groundbreaking ceremony was held November 30 '10 at the Museum’s new site overlooking Biscayne Bay. The new Miami Art Museum is scheduled to open to the public in 2013.

A Changing Role for Design

Our world and our society are changing rapidly, which also means a changing role for design and the designer. Design has for a long time manifested and consolidated an outdated consumer culture, almost like a monoculture. With the undermining of the global and the rise of niche local subcultures, design has a possibility to adopt a more central role as the ‘creative nutrient’, thus performing a more vital role by promoting a new ethical, responsible and sustainable cultural position by restoring diversity, meaning and value.

Scott, Rich & Victoria is the inter-disciplinary design partnership of New Zealanders
Scott Fitzsimons and Richard Hartle, who began working together in London in late 2007.

The pair later combined their talents to establish their international creative studio in September 2009, based in both London and Auckland, accessible to international manufacturers across Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions.

To Celebrate its 10th anniversary the Tiffany Foundation donated $1.25 million to the Royal Parks Foundation creating the Tiffany - Across the Water program, which focuses on creating ornamental drinking foundations throughout London's eight royal parks.

In June 2010, the Royal Parks Foundation launched a global design competition, requesting submissions for innovative new drinking fountain ideas. After receiving applications from 125 different countries, the Jury have selected two british designers, Moxon Architects and Robin Monotti Architects with Mark Titman.
