The project involved the conversion of two semi-detached houses in central Oxford into one family home. Two existing Victorian houses are joined together by introducing a new staircase clad in stained timber at the centre of the plan and perpendicular to the party wall.
Situated on the outskirts of a village, an existing house was demolished to allow for a new build in order to maximize the relationship between the architecture and surrounding landscapes. Oak was selected to provide a universal and sustainable cladding material.
The Dinder House: a conversion of a Regency-era property into a contemporary family home, was designed by Isle Crawford. A key element of the re-design was functionality – ensuring the home could be fully utilized by the family who occupies it (including four young boys).
Hauser & Wirth Somerset has opened to the public with a solo exhibition of site-specific sculptures by Phyllida Barlow.
