Premsela presents 'Basic Instincts'
through July 31 '11
Villa Elisabeth
Berlin
Premsela, the Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion, presents 'Basic Instincts'; a multi disciplinary show featuring 50 designers. The exhibition combines fashion design, art, architecture and product design, and aims to represent the diversity of Dutch creative culture.
The exhibition is grouped thematically in 6 areas:
'Soft Future' focuses on flexibility, harmony and a gentle vision of the future – the fashion of Klavers van Engelen meets the work of the product and interior designer Bo Reudler and the architectural firm Powerhouse Company.
'Slow Forward' shows how radical innovation can be effected through traditional techniques and handcraft and features design from Iris van Herpen and product designers Jo Meesters and Paula Arntzen.
'Un-designed' aims to demonstrate how designers use existing forms and materials as starting points for new work, and looks at how design "grasps the new in the already
existing."
'Metropolitan Sleek,' looks at the making of design “'classics'.
'Perspectives', examines how designs are perceived and the varying angles of interpretation and consideration.
Lastly, a special segment called 'Panopticon' acts as a multi media lounge, and contains work by photographers and video artists like Erwin Olaf, Petrovsky & Ramone, and Anuschka Blommers & Niels Schumm.
At the heart of this exhibition is the relationship and interchange between different disciplines, something which the organisers see as key to dutch design;
"A multidisciplinary approach is pursued with “Basic Instincts”, enclosing fashion design, art, architecture and product design. Dutch mentality stems from a wide diversity and an open design culture. This is what makes designers and artists from the Netherlands internationally successful"
