Sotheby's presents 'Material Worlds'

Sotheby's has announced the line-up for 'Material Worlds', its second outdoor selling exhibition set in the stunning grounds of medieval Sudeley Castle.
The exhibition will feature 11 contemporary artists and designers, from the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Lebanon, with prices ranging from £2,200 to £216,000. The works themselves are predominantly large scale and comprised of materials such as iron, glass, aluminium and concrete, creating a dramatic juxtaposition in this ancient and green setting, as curator Janice Blackburn explains:
"Sudeley Castle is a magical place and visitors will embark on a wonderful treasure hunt through the gardens. The objects, each chosen for their innovation and originality, will surprise and delight the eye. New and specially commissioned works by some of the world's best-known designers and architects will make Material Worlds a destination exhibition for collectors."
Of the pieces presented, there are two which have been specially commissioned for this event; 'Form of Intrigue' by Laura Ellen Bacon, a cascading sculpture of woven ash twigs; and three new silver‐plated sculptures by Stephen Johnson from his 'Now Isn’t That Lovely' series.
Other highlights include Tord Boontje’s 'Rain' Table and Chairs, Ingo Maurer’s LED Table, which will illuminate the Sudeley chapel; architect David Adjaye’s granite 'Giza' bench; V&A Extension winner Amanda Levete’s sculptural 'Drift' bench in cement and limestone and 'Mazzolin di Fiori' by Andrea Salvetti (above in Antifeatro Sqaure, Lucca, Italy), a metallic cupola composed of 1,500 aluminium flowers.
