Design Miami/ Basel 2011 opened to the public yesterday; bringing together some of the most influential galleries, collectors, designers, critics and curators of collectible design from around the world.
Here, Mateo Kries, co- director of the Vitra Design Museum, gives his take on the fair and it's place within in the design calendar; citing not only the commercial importance of the event but the platform for inspiration it provides in new design ideas, materials and aesthetics. He also discusses the parallels and connections that exist between the contemporary art and collectible design markets, before picking out a few of his highlight pieces within this years event.
