Milan Furniture Fair 2011 [Monocle]

Monocle have released their report from the Milan Furniture Fair 2011. They point out the the rise of LED lighting, specifically the Phillips booth, where they highlighted the broad possibilities of LED. The dominance of Phillips lead Monocle to question the role of Italian manufacturers in the future of lighting design.

They also highlights the movement from lifestyle design to experiential design. Designers are creating brands and products that move beyond the idea of a lifestyle and encompass a mix of ‘culture art and the joy of living...’

This year the Salone del Mobile in Milan celebrated its 50th anniversary. Fittingly, the mood was buoyant throughout the week-long event as the industry is beginning to pick up again post-recession.
