'We Want to Be Modern | Polish Design 1955 - 1968'
February 4 - April 17 '11
The National Museum in Warsaw
The exhibition 'We Want to Be Modern' opens this week at the National Museum in Warsaw. The show will explore the significance of objects of everyday use in shaping modernity and the modern Polish identity emerging during the post-thaw period.
As the young contemporary Polish design scene continues to cultivate interest and global attention, this exhibition allows one to trace influences and ideas from the past sixty years; the show guides visitors from the beginnings of modern Polish thinking all the way to contemporary Polish design.
Working with Miśka Miller- Lovegrove and Anna Pietrzyk-Simone the museum intends to continue their efforts to promote Polish design. You may remember their 2009 show during London design week entitled Young Creative Poland. The Duo have worked to expose young Polish designers to the greater design community. During their time in London we had an exclusive interview with Miśka Miller- Lovegrove and Leonora Oppenheim on DeTnk.tv
I would recommend reading Discovering Women In Polish Design written by Gian Luca Amadel to supplement your experience of this exhibition.
