The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion
10 July - 17 Oct ’10
Serpentine Gallery
Kensington Gardens, London
On the 10th of July, the Serpentine Gallery in London will official unveil their 10th annual Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, which has been designed by renowned French architec Jean Nouvel.
The Pavilion series has become an international stage for architectural experimentation and its model - a maximum of six months from invitation to completion - marks a unique challenge for the selected architect. This year’s building will be bold and geometric with large retractable awnings and a sloped, free standing wall that rises 12m above the lawn.
2010 marks the Serpentine Gallery’s 40th anniversary and so the Pavilion by Nouvel will act as a monumental celebration of this. It will also mark Nouvel’s first completed building in the UK, and the space will act as a cafe and public space for special events held by the Gallery’s Park Nights series.
The Pavilion opens July 10th and will remain open through October.
