Wright: Important Design
8 June ’10
Wright Auction House
Chicago, IL
On the 8th of June, Wright will hold its third Design specific sale in 2010. The sale includes many pieces from important mid-century designers with few contemporary pieces. It is clear auction houses are not ready to gamble on emerging names.
Highlights from the sale include Harry Bertoia’s, ‘untitled (monumental bush)’ estimated between $300,000 - $500,000 as well as Frank Gehry’s ‘Bubble’ chaise, estimated $15,000 - $20,000. Other works for sale include two of Gerrit Rietveld’s famous ‘Zig-Zag’ chairs, estimated $12,000 - $18,000.
Jean Prouve’s ‘Standard’ desk no. 21, is also being offered for sale estimated between $40,000 - $50,000; however, many other unique works are being included like those by Pierre Jeanneret, Gabriella Crespi, and Angelo Mangiarotti.
Highlights from the auction can be seen in DeTnk’s Collecting Design Marketplace.
