The Essence of Things: Design and the Art of Reduction

Now on view at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany is ‘ The Essence of Things’, an exhibiton that focuses on the influence of the ‘less is more’ mentality in modern design.
The show covers a wide range of work, from the iconic Thonet chair No. 14 to the iPod, and it aims to demonstrate the diversity with which designers have interpreted and utilized this priciple of simplicity.
The exhibit features furniture and objects by Gerrit Reitveld, Le Corbusier, Charles and Ray Easmes, Dieter Rams, Shiro Kurmata and Jasper Morrison among others. In the exhibitions the objects are complemented by photos of architecture, fashion and works of art.
