The Luxury of Roughing It
by Kate Graham for TIME Magazine
In this article for America’s TIME Magazine, Kate Graham discusses the Rough Luxe Hotel, one of London’s more interesting boutique guesthouses.
The hotel was created and designed by Rabih Hage, and it is a fantastic example of how cutting-edge contemporary design can fuse with historical character in a way that is inspirational for both designers and collectors alike.
According to Graham this little guesthouse, tucked away on a side street near Kings Cross Station ‘looks as though your favorite granny took a design degree, but the end result is stimulating and surprisingly warm.’
From the worn walls adorned with layers of peeling wallpaper that date back nearly two hundred years, to the perfectly preserved 1960s kitchen, the Rough Luxe Hotel is a slice of roughened London heritage. But with decorative touches from such notable contemporary artists and designers as Karen Ryan, Jonathan Root and Yarisal & Kublitz, the Rough Luxe Hotel is also on the cutting-edge of hospitality trends.
