On December 8th, Wright auction house in Chicago will hold it’s bi-annual sale of Important Design. Included in this sale is an impressive selection of significant modern pieces, as well as many important historical and contemporary works.
With over 400 lots on offer, the range of Wright’s winter sale is massive. The pieces up for grabs vary from Carlo Bugatti’s highly intricate secretaire and chair made of Italian walnut, hide, copper, white metal, rope, silk, and bone c. 1905, to Shiro Kuramata’s sleek acrylic and aluminum ‘Feather Stool’ from 1990.
Other highlights include classic pieces by iconic designers like Gerrit Rietveld and Ludwig Mles van der Rohe, Zaha Hadid’s ‘TCTADID’ tea and coffee service, a vintage Aston Martin DB6 sports car, a model for a BTD Destroyer from the Douglas Aircraft Company, and several mid-century works by Mexican Modernists. The sale also includes countless Scandinavian, French and Italian designs now generally regarded as ‘mid-century masterpieces’.
