Marking the line: Ceramics and Architecture
22 May – 15 July '13
Port Eliot
A group of leading contemporary ceramic artists will fill some of Sir John Soane’s finest rooms with brand new works inspired by the architect, his creations and collections, as a new exhibition tours Soane designed buildings in 2013.
New installations, abstract architectural ceramics and sculpture will provide a compelling complement to Soane’s signature convex mirrors, domed ceilings and playful use of light in the new exhibition Marking the line: Ceramics and Architecture.
Following a run at Sir John Soane’s Museum in Spring 2013, Marking the line: Ceramics and Architecture will open from 22 May – 15 July at one of the country’s most remarkable houses, Port Eliot in St Germans, Cornwall, before completing its tour at Soane’s weekend retreat, Pitzhanger Manor in Ealing, west London. Known for organising the UK's most imaginative arts festival, Port Eliot Festival, the Grade I-listed mediaeval priory and house on the idyllic Port Eliot estate were remodelled in the 18th century by Soane.
