'Found' Works

Opening next week, on December 1st at Haunch of Venison London, is a show of new works by British artist and designer Stuart Haygarth. The pieces on display examine the artist’s ongoing relationship with abandoned objects and his fascination with taxonomy.

Haygarth has spent many years gathering an array of seemingly insignificant items such as ceramic figurines, spectacles, and various glassware among many other things. His new collection features furniture, lamps and chandeliers built literally out of these everyday objects.

The resulting pieces are hauntingly beautiful. This is particularly the case with his work ‘Spectacle’ (pictured below), which is made entirely out of found spectacles and sungalsses. It simultaneously reminds us of exquisite crystal chandeliers, the incredible waste of consumer culture, and the memory of the individuals who would have wore these particular objects.
