THE RESULTS ARE IN: Phillips de Pury’s MUSIC Auction
21st November ’09, 5pm
Phillips de Pury & Company
London
Phillips de Pury & Company’s innovative MUSIC themed sale brought in a total of £1,216,438 last Saturday in London. The results are far from thrilling with only 142 of the available 231 lots selling, but the design items faired well; each sold for well within or above its pre-sale estimate.
The set of eight ‘Komed’ chairs by Marc Newson sold for £28,750 (pre-sale estimate £25,000-£35,000). The ‘Batman’ stereophonic Hi-Fi system and bar by Adalberton Dal Largo brought in £8,750, over twice it’s high estimate of £4,000. The ‘Wega 3300 Hifi’ stereophonic system also sold for over its high-estimate at £1,625 (pre-sale estimate £800-£1,200).
With this series of themed auctions, Phillips de Pury has been trying to redefine the way art, photography, and design are presented at auction. So far though, these themed sales have fallen short of expectation.
