New ‘Carbon 451’ Hanging Lamp
by Marcus Tremonto
When Patrick Brillet of The Apartment Gallery, London asked Marcus Tremonto to design a light out of Carbon Fiber, Tremonto decided to make a work that would utilize and celebrate the material’s inherent lightness and strength.
Tremonto's new 'Carbon 451' hanging lamp is the impressive result of this collaboration. The complex curves and incredible thinness of the lamp’s form could not have been duplicated in any other material while still maintaining its ability to support itself completely.
Inspired by this project, Tremonto is currently working on designs for another monumental hanging light and a table that will utilize the physical properties of certain chosen materials to acheive illusions in form and weight.
The ‘Carbon 451’ lamp can be viewed a The Apartment Gallery in London by appointment. For more information on the gallery please visit www.theapartment.uk.com
