Belgrade Design Week: Highlight Branko Lukić of NONOBJECT
5th June '09
With a great lecture series and some spectacular international design displays, Belgrade’s Design Week is indeed building a name for itself, making it a must see in today’s design circuit.
Defined by their emphasis on innovation and global creativity the Serbian centre offers a fresh outlook on the world of contemporary design.
This year’s highlight was most definitely NonObject with their exhibition ‘Design Fiction Part II’.
Exploring design beyond its physical boundaries, California-based Branko Lukić presented a series of everyday objects, such as a set of spoons, mobile phone, watch and umbrella, designed in a world with no rules and void of all boundaries.
This refreshing exploration into the future of design and innovation opens up avenues of design thinking while allowing the viewer to ponder questions regarding the essence of an object – why we want what we want, why functionality is defined in such a narrow way, and most importantly how to liberate the imagination from constraints of needs, technology, practicality and cost-effectiveness.
