WALL-E's World: Designs for an Invisible Footprint
11th June '09, 6:30pm
Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)
2 Columbus Circle, New York
As part of the World of Science Festival, The Museum of Arts and Design will host a panel discussion focused on sustainability and our future.
Taking as its starting point Disney’s animated movie Wall-E and it’s cautionary tale about humanity’s relationship with the environment, the panel will discuss ingenious strategies for creating a sustainable future - from ‘carborexic’ cities made entirely from recycled trash, to how the pursuit of ‘green’ space exploration may one day help to revolutionize waste management.
Panelists include: architect and urban designer Mitchell Joachim, NASA planetary scientist Christopher McKay, Walt Disney Imagineering R+D scientist Ben Schwegler, and scientist, author and lecturer Carl Zimmer.
For all those who have yet to see the film, or if you would just like to have a quick refresher before participating in the discussion, a screening of WALL-E will take place at 4:00pm
Tickets for the discussion $25 and are available at www.worldsciencefestival.com
