U.F.O: Art and Design
23rd May - 5th July '09
NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft
Ehrenhof 2, 40479 Düsseldorf
Charles Eames, one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century, said that ‘design is an expression of purpose. It may (if it is good enough) later be judged as art.’
Contemporary young designers, on the other hand, see the matter more pragmatically. According to the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, ‘there is no longer a clear border between product design and art.’
The NRW - Forum Düsseldorf explores this every growing issue in their latest exhibition U.F.O blurring the boundaries between art and design.
Featuring work by a range of artists and designers including, Ron Arad, Richard Artschwager, Martino Gamper, Zaha Hadid, Donald Judd, Ross Lovegrove and Franz West, the exhibition investigates the changing functions and dissolving borders between the two disciplines.
