Deformation: It wasn't me
by Kai Linke
Through an exploration into the natural effects of material forces, German designer Kai Linke produced ‘Deformation: It wasn’t me’, a collection of objects which highlight the life and beauty of imperfection.
Based on a system whereby the given deformation of a product will in no way be influenced by human force but solely through stresses imparted from one material to the other, Linke devised a series of objects with a language of their own.
The initial forms, created using malleable materials such as felt, are filled with heavy liquid compounds. The wetness and weight of the compounds stress the outer form, transforming its original shape. Once solid the outer shell is removed, leaving a seemingly deformed object in its place.
