Where Craft and Design Intersect
29th January '09, 6:30pm

The Museum of Arts and Design will host a panel discussion on the blurring of the boundaries between craft and design.
For years now, a shift has been occurring in the fields of craft and design. Modes of production and consumption that where once distinct are being re-considered by makers and curators alike. Materials and processes that were strictly in the domain of “craft” are making their way into the mainstream of design, and production techniques that were used only for design purposes have been adopted and reformulated by artists and craftspeople. MAD’s chief curator David Revere McFadden is joined by artist Michelle Oka Donor, designer Suzanne Tick, and writer and executive editor of American Craft Magazine Andrew Wagner for a discussion of the implications of this new movement.
