Karim Rashid - Art and Design in a Global World
Now - January 4th '09
Instituto Tomie Ohtake,
Sao Paulo, Brazil
In an attempt to fuel the debate in Brazil regarding aspects of contemporary design and its impact on daily life, the Instituto Tomie Ohtake presents a retrospective of the work of internationally renowned designer Karim Rashid.
With more than 2,500 modern designs and contemporary products in production worldwide, there is no doubt that Rashid is a prime candidate for sparking design world dissension.
Playing between reality and the artificial, Rashid’s works are imbued with a permanent immediacy, which is the most important component in defining their essence.
The exhibition successfully portrays this while featuring a full range of Rashid’s work from furniture and products to packaging, interior spaces, and fashion, including some obvious classics, the Wolf-Gordon wallpapers, the Poly chair for Bonaldo and the Koochy couch for Zanotta.
