Break the Pattern
Heather Gillespie
British glass artist Heather Gillespie's recent work focuses on the 16th century art of copper wheel engraving in producing elegant lighting solutions.
Challenging the boundary between design and craft, her most recent piece, 'Break the Pattern', displayed at Tent London during the London Design Festival 2008, demonstrates how the refractive and reflective properties of glass can be manipulated to create beautiful contemporary designs via age old techniques.
Working with a selection of diamond, stone and copper wheels to produce texture and form, Heather's glass-works are the result of a self taught and largely organic exploration into the reappropriation of craft skills in a contemporary context.
Certainly one to watch out for.
