Campana Brothers Select: Works from the Permanent Collection
15th February - 28th September '08
Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum New York, USA
The famous Brazilian Campana Brothers are acting as the latest in the series of ‘guest curators’ at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York. They have selected over 30 objects from the Museum’s permanent collection, including wallpaper designs, jewellery and furniture.
Campana Brothers Selects invites the audience to view the theme of “manufacturing emotions”, objects with the ability to trigger emotions and memories. The pieces selected have been curated to suggest before unseen connections and parallels. The exhibition will also feature a piece newly commissioned by the Museum which completes the Brother’s TransPlastic series. This sequence of works illustrates their view of the conflict between nature and plastic; this final piece has not been seen before and will form part of the Museums permanent collection.
