Barber & Osgerby at Salone del Mobile Milano

Barber & Osgerby, the London-based design studio will present a series of new product launches at this years Salone del Mobile Milano.

The designers have created a new lighting family for FLOS which can be seen at Euroluce. The Bellhop collection features a number of different pieces including table, and floor lamps.

Barber & Osgerby and Vitra will unveil a new Mariposa range, the Mariposa Club featuring a sofa and armchair that have been designed in a smaller scale than the original Mariposa designs. Also at the fair, DEDON will showcase an extension of the TIBBO outdoor collection designed by Barber & Osgerby and successfully launched earlier this year. Finally, B&B Italia will unveil an outdoor cast concrete version of the popular Tobi-Ishi table designed by Edward & Jay.

Away from the fair, Edward & Jay will talk at Microsoft House as part of the ICON Design Talks on Thursday 6th April.

Edward & Jay in collaboration with Vitra will present the new Mariposa Club collection at Salone del Mobile, an extension of the popular Mariposa collection launched in 2014. The Mariposa Club Sofa and Mariposa Club Armchair have been designed to combine spacious comfort and an understated feel through well-balanced proportions.

These new pieces are smaller in scale than the original Mariposa designs which makes them suitable for urban living spaces and for use in lounge and hospitality projects. The compact body of both the sofa and armchair offers maximum seating comfort, while the reduced dimensions take up limited space. The Mariposa Club epitomises a design philosophy that seeks quality and expressive flair in a condensed format.

The Bellhop family began when Barber & Osgerby designed a table lamp for the new London Design Museum. The table top Bellhop gives the user ultimate flexibility as a portable lamp. The Designers worked with Flos and adapted the simple archetype into a series of lamps including wall, pendant and an outdoor. Bellhop casts an atmospheric pool of light and the portable version is like a modern day candle.

After the debut in the Home collection, Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby design Tobi-Ishi Outdoor, the external version of the iconic round dining table clearly inspired by Zen. The design duo are great enthusiasts of Japanese art and culture, and the name and inspiration come from the smooth stones (tobi-ishi) used as ornaments in traditional Zen gardens. The overhang of the table and the vertical trapezoidal bases set at right angles generate an essential sculptural figure that appears to change shape depending on the point of observation. Exclusively made of concrete, Tobi-Ishi Outdoor comes in two colour variants, grey and anthracite.

Edward and Jay have once again teamed up with German based furniture producer DEDON to design several new pieces for the TIBBO collection. Launched earlier this year, TIBBO is the designers' first outdoor collection and DEDON’s primary range in teak. Designed with the intention of bringing the sensibility of indoor furniture outside TIBBO is a collection that can transition the threshold between interior and exterior spaces and redefines the traditional boundaries of the home.

The collection has been extended to include a generous, super comfy two and three-seater sofa, an elegant sun lounger and a solid teak coffee table. Like the original TIBBO chairs and tables, the new additions are characterised by generous proportions, architectural rigor, an aesthetic of timeless simplicity and sensitivity to the beauty of hand-turned wood.

The sun lounger features a steel-cast adjustment mechanism and custom-made hinges designed to contrast elegantly with the nautical influences of the wooden seat. Based on the TIBBO lounge chairs, the sofas are spacious and truly bridge the boundary between indoor and outdoor living, providing exceptional comfort while remaining lightweight and ease to reposition.
