DIALOGO Carlo Scarpa and Ettore Sottsass presented by Charles Zana

Nn the occasion of the 57th Venice Biennale and the centenary of Ettore Sottssas birth, the architect Charles Zana presents the Dialogo exhibition from 10 May to 20 Aaugust 2017 which brings together more than 60 pieces.
From the meeting of the two Italian architects, Carlo Scarpa and Ettore Sottsass who have in common to have explored various artistic fields, flows an extraordinary dialogue whose Charles Zana had the initiative.
The Olivetti boutique, invented in 1957 by Carlo Scarpa, welcomes Ettore Sottsass ceramics from 1957 to 1970 for this exceptional event.
This unprecedented exhibition, designed and staged by Charles Zana curator of the event, invites us to explore the essence of Sottsass’s work through a relevant selection of sculptures specially designed for the Il Sestante Gallery.
The collection, from private collections, reveals the forerunner of Sottsass who, through his research on form, color and matter, has developed a unique plastic vocabulary. From the raw technique of lava to tantra pieces close to pop art, from terra cota to enamel, from smooth to rough, this staging of exceptional pieces re ects the wealth, diversity and versatility of the designer Italian.
Thus a decade of visual and technical explorations are revealed in the famous «negozio Olivetti» designed by Carlo Scarpa; As ten di erent collections, a decade of visual and technical explorations in which each work of Sottssas takes on its full architectural dimension. And if this retrospective allows both to question the boundary between art and design and to question the status of the work, it is also an opportunity to rediscover a high place of Venetian architecture.
