'Frozen' by Jungin Lee at Galleria SWING
March 8 – May 17 '14
Benevento, Italy
Galleria SWING is pleased to present Frozen #1, the new collection by Korea-born, London-based designer Jungin Lee (Gwang-ju 1985). The project Frozen was presented for the first time in 2012 at the graduation show in MA Product Design at Royal College of Art in London. Since then, it has been developed and shown at Dutch Design Week, Milan Design Week and London Design Festival.
This latest collection, produced in occasion of her first solo exhibition at Galleria SWING, consists of a series of benches, stools and lights. Each piece is unique and handmade. Frozen #1 explores a new process of making furniture. Fascinated by both industrial and handmade process, Jungin Lee tries to combine them together, experimenting materials and techniques as well as aesthetic-formal features.
Taking inspiration from origami technique, each Frozen piece is made with folding skill that expands an unpredicted form individually; the designer makes use of an industrial process but by hands. The result is the production of narrative-based objects fragile at first glance, where the essence of the materials and the beauty of irregular shapes are enhanced. Her experimental approach reveals an aptitude to explore a variety of aspects of design, including creation of future scenarios, new processes of making and performative roles of materiality.
