Lythos Table by Toni Grilo for Haymann
Toni Grilo delivers an impressive carved monolith for the French company Haymann. The Lythos table is a huge slab of black veined Aziza marble (Syria) with an impeccable design: a sacrificial altar or a mineral imbued aperitif in Paris…
The Franco-Portuguese designer has naturally created this signature piece in a single-material, in line with the top of the range young French brand where he is also artistic director alongside David Haymann. This piece is made from what appears to be a heavy single block. The lightweight construction, minimal thickness and an internal counterbalance, provides a maximum visual effect that remains easy to handle.
Franco-Portuguese designer and artistic director, Toni Grilo was born in Nancy in 1979. Graduating from the Ecole Boulle in Paris in 2001, he immediately left for Lisbon. At the edge of Europe, and rediscovering his roots, he discovered a rich industrial and artisanal basin, passionate about technique and working with material. After various collaborations, he decided to settle definitively in Portugal: in January 2005 he founded his first agency,
Objection, with designer Elder Monteiro, but he went solo in 2008, opening an eponymous studio, specializing in industrial design, furniture and exhibition design. Currently based in Porto, he is artistic director of several international brands, such as Riluc, Haymann, Blackcork and the centenary silversmith Topázio.
