The New Designers Habitat Awards

Having just graduated from Bucks Contemporary Furniture design course, Naoko Kanehira has gone on to pick up the New Designers Habitat Award, for her ‘Cushion Sofa’.

“We liked Naoko’s playful and original ideas, particularly a deceptive sofa concept that encourages relaxed abandon,” explained the panel of judges. “She has a versatile and consistently strong body of work.”

Kanehira’s aim to make furniture that welcomes you and provides comfort, is echoed in her winning piece ‘Cushion Sofa’. For this she has produced a seat structured from oversized cushions, simplistic in design yet sustainable in function, that can be changed to suit personal taste and aesthetic.

The design is amongst a range of interior products produced by the designer, including one of our favourites – ‘Bird Hooks’.
