Lola Lely
PAD Prize Nominee 2012
The explicit connections between material, process and maker are all central to Lola Lely’s practice. From an early stage she developed a curiosity about how things are made and how making is a form of thinking.
Her concerns are generally process-based, which means that often, there is an outcome in the form of an event rather than a product, a resting point rather than an end point. Her latest project is a perfect demonstration. A restaurant, Potluck, as a statement on how creating cohesion, restore a spirit of collectivism and unity in often times impersonal metropolis, through design.
She gathers people for an interactive dining experience, enticing them to share their daily rituals of eatingwith a series of objects she designed. This takes form in a collection of tactile stacking pots, serving utensils and a central cooking table, using a variety of materials, including metal, wood, ceramics and textiles.
