Marcus Tremonto
Lightworks
Influenced by his surroundings of city lights and confined living conditions, Marcus Tremonto has created a dazzling body of work that features a range of chandeliers, tables and wall pieces.
Through his manipulation of readily available materials and electroluminescence, the New York based artist/designer combines the functionality of design with the transcendent qualities of art, producing a series of work whose colourful and luminous presence projects a magical sensory experience.
Consistently working on enabling light to be stripped of its purely functional restraints, Tremento has developed an impressive collection of lighting designs including that ‘Stitch’ and ‘Fantasma’ series.
The ‘Fantasma’ pieces - meaning ghost in Italian - are of a similar nature to flat screen paintings. The series incorporates a group of table and hanging works formed from a hand-finished panel of Perspex which supports a glowing line of electroluminescent material.
The ‘Stitch’ series is, alternatively, more sculptural in nature. This group of works focuses on expanding the potential of electroluminescence encasing the light emitting material in perspex and then hand shaping it to create a voluminous form.
Tremonto’s works, many of which play on the great designs of the modern era while others focus on a more abstract and futuristic realm, challenge our perceptions of space and light while inviting us into a world where our imaginations can run freely.
