Metal Fuzz by Study O Portable
presented by Gallery Fumi at Pad
Paris
Opening tomorrow, the Pavilion of Art and Design will feature designers and galleries from around the world. London design duo Study O Portable have been kind enough to share a preview of their work that is being presented during the design fair.
Caroline van Hoek is presenting a new series of 'quartz mirrors' which premiered at Design Miami/ this past year. This series of mirrors are created by sliced, polished and silvered pieces of quartz.
Gallery Fumi will be premiering Metal Fuzz which is created from many thin layers of aluminium and brass applied on to a spherical core gradually amalgamate into a fuzzy bronze exterior.
Metal Fuzz is a development from an earlier project, Fuzz, where they visualised the process of an idea blurring into something similar but different through the act of designing.
The new version of something old is often the basis of Study O Portable intentions to design, desiring to produce a new quality in an object.
While maintaining the same interest, M.F. also hints at another instant of this phenomenon; the metal alloy where impurities give the pure material different qualities, allowing different possibilities than the original.
