Truth in Form/Reason for Being
29 September - 6 October '11
Chicago
This fall Wright introduces guest-curated exhibitions to Wright 21, the auction house's contemporary design platform. For the inaugural exhibition, Wright turns to the event-based Volume Gallery (VOL) to select intriguing new works by today’s designers. Claire Warner and Sam Vinz (co-directors at VOL) use their keen eye and knowledge of the American design scene to provide excerpts of contemporary culture as a way of better understanding “now”.
Wright/Wright 21
Wright established Wright 21 as a platform for further engaging design culture through the exploration of contemporary design. Through collaborations with designers Wright 21 makes unique and limited edition contemporary forms available to the market. This fall Wright 21 introduces new content through the addition of guest-curated exhibitions that survey contemporary practice in the fields of design and architecture. Teaming with relevant members from the design community, the program aims to encourage, challenge and inspire designers and collectors alike. All forms included in the exhibition will be available for purchase.
VOL and Truth in Form/Reason for Being
The first exhibition for Wright 21 is curated by Volume Gallery. Chicago’s Volume Gallery is internationally recognized for commissioning works by contemporary American designers. VOL’s exhibition Truth in Form/Reason for Being explores functional design, sculpture and pattern. The exhibition title does not set parameters; instead, the title is in an invitation for the viewer to explore concepts of Form and Being as presented by some of today’s great designers. Within the selection of work, nothing is accidental or appropriated; each object is purposeful and concise in measure. Further, each item is connected to the needs, forms, materials and technologies that are available today. Artists and designers include: Brian Anderson, Stephen Burks, Cmmwlth, Andy Coolquitt, Felica Ferrone, Sung Jang, Jonathan Nesci, Snarkitecture, Rich Brilliant Willing and ROLU.
