Sydney Design Festival 2008
8th - 24th August '08
Sydney, Australia - various locations
Over the next few weeks we will be showcasing the best bits of the Sydney Design Festival 2008.
Currently in its 12th year, Sydney Design celebrates excellence in home-grown and international design backed by an extensive program including international speakers, exhibitions, tours, markets, films and other special events.
Held at the Museum and satellite venues all over the city, the annual festival aims to engage and inspire audiences, while exploring the varied forms of design from architecture to digital design and interior to industrial design.
The highlights of this year's 17-day program include:
- A series of special night openings to ignite the spirit of modernism and complement the new exhibition Modern Times: the untold story of modernism in Australia.
- The Young Blood: Designers Market that is on in tandem with ‘designboom mart’, bringing young designers from around the globe to discuss and sell their wares.
- The inaugural Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship, presented by the Powerhouse Museum and the British Council with Arts NSW, which will enable an emerging local designer to undertake professional development activities abroad.
- And for the second year, The Powerhouse Museum will also co-produce the exhibition Workshopped, which will feature new Australian design, from prototypes to production pieces, in high-profile commercial settings.
With so much going on over the upcoming weeks, keep watching DeTank’s Diary space for our what-not-to-miss picks of the festival.
