Young Architects Programme 2008
Now - 24th August '08
PS1 Outdoor Courtyard
22-25 Jackson Ave. Long Island City, New York.
The Young Architects Program, jointly presented by MoMA and P.S.1, enables emerging architects to design creative interpretations of P.S.1's large entrance courtyard.
This year's winning proposal belongs to WORK Architecture Company with their proposed landscape P.F.1 (Public Farm 1) which will serve as an interactive environment for the 2008 Warm Up summer music series at P.S.1.
Continuing the tradition of transforming the courtyard into a visually stimulating space, by creating an innovative structure perfectly suited to shade and shelter tired attendees to the PS1 music festival, P.F.1 is an urban farm concept that evokes the look of a flying carpet landing in the P.S.1 courtyard. Constructed from large cardboard tubes, its top surface will be a working farm, blooming with a variety of vegetables and plants. The structure will create a textured, colourful, and constantly changing surfae in contrast with P.S.1's angular concrete and gravel courtyard.
P.F.1 will work as an interactive bridge between outside and inside, creating multiple zones of activity including swings, fans, sound effects, innovative seating areas, and a refreshing pool at its centre.
The installation will be up until the 24 August. However, for those that can’t attend in person, Public Fam 1 has an online gallery featuring the winning design including a Time Lapse of the installation. See the following sites for more information,
