Stedelijk Museum
'S-Hertogenbosch
Netherlands
This summer Stedelijk Museum presents 'Blush - Design in Full Colour', the first major exhibition of design partnership Scholten & Baijings.
Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have worked together for over 10 years, creating a practice which spans furniture, products, textiles and conceptual projects. The duo also designed the exhibition itself, making it a show which is completely in keeping with their artistic vision and unique aesthetic sensibility. Their work combines minimal subtle forms and delicate but striking use of colour, created through manufacturing processes which embrace both traditional craft and industrial production precision.
Scholten & Baijings have gained many awards for their work including; The 'Woonbeurs Award' and 'The Dutch Design Award' for 'Paper Table' (2010), a Wallpaper magazine nomination for 'Designer of the year 2011' as well as receiving their 'Design Award' at Salon Del Mobile Milan 2011 for 'Paper Porcelain' (2011). They were also named 'Young Designer Talent 2011' by The Elle Decoration International Design Awards.
The exhibition focuses on Scholten & Baijings' individual design process and is described in four segments: 'In Fusion' – defining the 'studio' approach and workshop thinking; 'D?constructed' – displays widely varying production processes with national and international manufacturers; 'Live in Colour' – Scholten & Baijings' take on products in the contemporary home and 'Delighted States' – which presents essential collaborations with museums and historical cultural collections.
To accompany the exhibition, Scholten & Baijings have produced this 'Stlll Life Movie', an ambient overview of the colours, textures and feel one can expect to experience at Blush - Design in Full Colour.
